Two years into her fashion merchandising career, Courtney Vetters had what she calls a “moment of probably a little bit of crazy.” The 25-year-old University of Texas grad—who interned at Kendra Scott—quit her corporate buying job for Francesca’s and launched her own jewelry line, Courtney Ray Jewelry. Now, with seven months under her belt and a deal with Swoon Apparel + Accessories boutique in Memorial, she’s looking to expand into even more stores come fall.
Her line mixes chunky, earth-tone statement pieces with semiprecious stones and signature tassels. For inspiration, she looks to her family—from her grandmother’s vintage jewels to her friends’ bold accessories. The Kingwood-native also credits Texas for bright colors, turquoise and oversize earrings—“because everything’s bigger in Texas.”
Outside of fashion and business, Vetters likes to kick back with her sorority sisters at Buffalo Bayou Park and local breweries. During basketball season, just look at Toyota Center for the Rockets fan who remembers the Dream Team and still holds season tickets. “It’s been a long time since they were back-to-back champions, so people move on to something better—that’s not how it works!” Three points for team loyalty!
