You don’t need to go to Kentucky for a proper celebration of the greatest two minutes in sports.
For starters, on May 7 you’ll want to tune into the Kentucky Derby on NBC at 2:30 p.m. ET. Then, the next important step is to ready your mint juleps— and Woodford Reserve has you covered.
The bourbon whiskey brand just introduced its first-ever Derby in a Box, which includes everything to make cocktails fit for any Kentucky Derby party. Each kit includes a Woodford Reserve Mint Julep cup, a jigger, a stirrer and Mint Julep cocktail syrup.
For states where alcohol can be shipped, the box will include a Woodford Reserve 2022 Derby bottle signed by master distiller Chris Morris and artist Jaime Corum, whose horse portrait is featured on the bottle. If a bottle cannot legally be shipped, a signed limited-edition print of the bottle artwork will be included.
“The Kentucky Derby is always worthy of a big celebration, and we’re excited to bring the full Woodford Reserve experience into people’s homes with the Derby In a Box,” said Woodford Reserve Master Distiller Chris Morris.
The limited edition Derby in a Box will only be available to the first 148 buyers, who can choose between a custom Derby bow tie or scarf to be included in the kit. Each box sold will help benefit Old Friends Farm, a nonprofit organization near the Woodford Reserve Distillery where famed thoroughbreds retire.
The Derby in a Box follows up Woodford Reserve’s release of the 2022 $1,000 Mint Julep, which also supports Old Friends Farm. In honor of Derby 148, 148 ruby-embellished cups were available for purchase and already the 18 gold options are sold out, with a limited number of silver ones left at time of writing. This year’s $1K Mint Julep pays tribute to the connections between Kentucky and France.
“The French connections to Kentucky are significant – from Versailles, the home of our distillery – to Louisville, KY, the city where the Derby is run and which was named after King Louis XVI,” said Morris upon the $1K Mint Julep’s announcement.
