A light and breezy palette washes over this picturesque abode.

“I wanted the sunlight through the large windows to be the main character in this home—[we] went with playful and unique finish selections, yet kept an open, airy and charming feel,” shares Marian “Mimi” Meacham of Marian Louise Designs. For this interior design, the tables turned with this project, and she, in fact, was the client for her family’s brand new home build. “I used authentic, living materials so the home ages gracefully and grows along with us. Unexpected pops of color and use of timeless prints pair with the grounded elements of the home to create an interesting yet cozy vibe.” And that is precisely what the final result is—a home that hosts a discerning style paired with a warm character that abounds throughout the space.

The family of four embarked on this project at the height of Covid-19, so naturally, they ran into a few bumps along the way; however, the project was complete in 18 months, and the chic new build tucked in West University is now the sweetest place to call home. “I loved designing our home! I could be more quirky and unexpected with my choices because I didn’t have to worry about what the client’s tastes were,” notes Meacham. “The inspiration for the design came from the beautiful blush pink marble that I found early on and fell in love with! I knew the colors needed to be friendly and approachable to compliment the open and airy floor plan and large windows throughout the home. Blush, grey-green, and ivory hues were big players in this design playbook, and the other design elements stemmed from that root.” With a modern transitional twist, the home is full of character. The kitchen features double countertops with a sparkling marble finish, unlacquered brass fixtures and the piece de resistance—a La Cornue range complimented with zellige tiling. Marrying a mixture of vintage treasures (including an antique family heirloom piano) paired with modern finds, this serene oasis is a symbiotic wonder.
