What has 43 Grammys and 22 No.1 Billboard albums?
The five legendary performers for the 2022 Super Bowl’s Pepsi Halftime Show.
The NFL announced Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar will grace the Super Bowl stage at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. On Feb. 13, 2022. The 12-minute show, and the game, will air on NBC and Telemundo and stream live on Peacock.
"The opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime show, and to do it in my own backyard, will be one of the biggest thrills of my career," said Dr. Dre. "I'm grateful to JAY-Z, Roc Nation, the NFL, and Pepsi as well as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar for joining me in what will be an unforgettable cultural moment."
Not only will the epic performance be a homecoming for Dre, but also for Snoop, native to neighbor-to-the-south Long Beach, and Lamar, who is also from Compton. Bringing in Blige rounds out the family affair.
“This is history in the making,” said Jay-Z, whose Roc Nation is serving as the strategic entertainment advisers of the performance.
Not to forget the lineup’s Detroit representation, Eminem brings his career full circle by performing alongside Dre, who first signed him to Aftermath Records in 1998, leading to a decades-long history of collaboration.
"Artists like Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg were at the forefront of the West Coast hip hop revolution, so to be able to bring them back to LA, where it all began alongside Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar will prove to be an epic, unforgettable celebration of the impact hip hop has today," said Todd Kaplan, Pepsi Marketing VP.
In addition to putting on an epic entertainment event, Pepsi and the NFL are supporting the launch of Regional School #1. Opening next fall under the Los Angeles Unified School District, the South L.A. magnet high school is based on Jimmy Iovine and Dre’s USC Iovine and Young Academy. It will offer a unique educational model focused on integrated design, technology and entrepreneurship. On top of philanthropic support, the NFL and Pepsi will work with the school and local community to offer community-inspired applied learning experiences and industry internships.
"This effort will help develop and inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators," Los Angeles Unified Interim Superintendent Megan K. Reilly said. "We are excited about the additional opportunities this partnership will bring to our students."
Watch it all go down next February.
