thredUP and the costume designers of the Sex and the City revival, Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago, launched a shopping experience inspired by their iconic styling.
Consumers will be able to visit thredUP.com/thecity to browse three distinct “closets" full of hundreds of thrifted styles hand-picked by Molly and Danny -- including select items straight from their costume wardrobe.
thredUP will donate 100% of the proceeds from each closet shop to The Willie Garson Fund.
“Thrift has always been one of my styling secrets, which is why I’m thrilled to partner with thredUP. Their contribution to The Willie Garson Fund is so touching and generous, and we are overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness of their gesture. For a show like ’And Just Like That…’, thrifting can help create a unique, high-low look that tells a powerful story for each of the characters,” Molly Rogers, Costume Designer, AJLT.

“When I first started styling over 20 years ago, our only thrifting option was to scour the crowded racks of NYC consignment shops. It’s amazing to see how resale platforms like thredUP have made it that much easier to source secondhand styles. We can’t wait for shoppers to get their hands on our thrifted picks and help support a cause that is close to our hearts.”
“Molly and I loved using thredUP as a styling resource on set, and we’re excited to offer this one-of-a-kind shopping experience to fans. My goal is to show consumers that it’s not about dressing like a specific character, but really about being inspired by our work to identify your own personal style,” - Danny Santiago, Co-Costume Designer, AJLT
“I believe fashion should be accessible and fun for everyone and reflect each person’s individuality, and that’s exactly what we hope to convey with this collaboration. I’m proud that these thredUP collections showcase stylish assortments across every price point and size. And yes, there are thrifted Manolos!”
The costume designers, who have been documenting their latest work on @andjustlikethatcostumes, have decades of experience creating the looks of some of television and film’s most stylish and iconic characters.
The duo worked together on the set of the ‘Sex and the City’ movies, and Molly began her career with Patricia Field, working on the original series together. In all of these projects, secondhand and vintage clothes have played a notable role.
“When we style a show, we start with building each character’s closet,” says Molly. “We like to put ourselves in that person’s shoes, so to speak, and select clothes that say something about their personality. This is how we approached curating each closet for thredUP. I hope fans use this as a jumping-off point to cultivate a style that feels true to them.”
Shoppers can visit thredup.com/thecity to shop based on three distinct styles. Each closet offers hundreds of thrifted items hand-selected by Molly and Danny, including ensembles they thrifted for their own costume wardrobe. Proceeds from these three closets will go to The Willie Garson Fund.
1. The Statement Maker. You come up with unexpected looks that somehow always work. Your closet is a sartorial surprise. Secondhand brands include Nanushka, Alice + Olivia, and Manolo Blahnik.
“We discovered this Prada bag on thredUP and it epitomizes the ‘Statement Maker’ attitude. A fun bag with a pop of color can brighten any look for an unexpected twist. The fact that it’s thrifted just adds to the sense of charming irreverence.” Molly & Danny
2. The Polished Romantic. Bright, feminine, and preppy. Secondhand brands include Chanel, Rebecca Taylor, and Burberry.
“This Carolina Herrera dress is prim and proper, meticulously styled but with a touch of whimsy. The woman who wears this might be a romantic, but she also knows what she wants and how to get it.” -- Molly & Danny
3. The Laid-Back Power Dresser. You don’t compromise comfort for style. Relaxed tailoring is your signature. Secondhand brands include Ralph Lauren, Vince, and Marc Jacobs.
“The core of this style is reflective of the power that comes with accepting yourself. This Veronica Beard dress is buttoned up but not too uptight. The past few years have meant embracing challenges, and this look is all about being real and comfortable in your own skin.” -- Molly & Danny
“The more thrifted fashion makes its way on screen and infiltrates popular culture, the brighter the future of fashion will be,” says Wallace. “The fact is that thrifting can be the secret to getting the seemingly unattainable wardrobes of the most stylish characters. We hope our partnership with Molly and Danny inspires more fashion tastemakers to embrace thrift as the ultimate sustainable styling tool,” Erin Wallace, thredUP’s VP of Integrated Marketing.
