Talk to us about your passion for Mahjong and the inspiration behind your brand, Oh My Mahjong.
I love mahjong because it not only keeps your mind sharp but also brings people together. I appreciate how a young girl can play alongside her grandmother and great-grandmother. It’s a game that has truly stood the test of time, offering both mental stimulation and a fun experience for all ages.
Oh My Mahjong was inspired by the timeless classic of traditional mahjong tiles. I wanted to create a colorful brand that stays true to the traditional Chinese imagery. My goal was for someone who’s played mahjong for 40 years to be able to pick up my tiles and instantly recognize each symbol. I felt there was a huge opportunity for beautiful pieces in the mahjong world—from mats to bags and all the fun accessories.

How do you intertwine the game’s rich heritage with the brand’s playful aesthetic?
All of the symbols on the tiles at Oh My Mahjong are based on traditional designs. We’ve added color and a modern twist, but we stay true to the heritage of these beautiful pieces. When it comes to our other products, we’ve gone all out with color, patterns, and fun designs. There was a huge gap in offering exciting, playful items for the game, and we’re here to fill it!

Walk us through the game! Do you have any tips and tricks for new players?
Mahjong is a 30-minute game for four players. It’s a bit like chess in how it gets your brain working, but it also has a strong community vibe that brings people together. My best tip for learning? Get an instructor! It’s a tricky game, and trying to learn just from Googling can be tough. If you’re up for it, grab three of your good friends and start a weekly game night!
What products do you recommend for beginners?
All Oh My Mahjong products—kidding, sort of! Every one of our products comes with helpful instructional guides printed right on them. Any advice for those throwing Mahjong parties this season?
Layer, layer, layer! One of the best things about OMM is that everything goes together perfectly. The modern mahjong table is the new tablescape! Add a fun mat, pair it with a colorful tile set, grab some playful cocktail napkins, and throw in some mahjong stir sticks.
