"Ever see someone in a bad mood in an ice cream shop?” asks owner Kevin Chang. No frowns in sight here.
Kevin Chang’s Flower & Cream, which opened in July, is joy in a jar—why, yes, those are house-baked macaron ice cream sandwiches you see in the display case. In fact, everything is made in-house, from the artisanal ice cream down to the six-color rainbow cake and brown butter pecan mix-ins. But you may love this new parlor as much for its Insta-ready decor as you do for its desserts. Straightforward Scandi style swirls with retro swaths of color thanks to Gin Braverman of Gin Design Group, who riffed on Chang’s “serious approach to a playful product.” The banquette, with its sleek blond wood bench and colorfully upholstered back cushion (think multicolored waffle cone), is case in point. And because “no space we design is complete without an experiential moment,” says Braverman, there is an ever-changing LED light box installation by local artists Moon Papas adorning the restroom vestibule. The details are everything at Flower & Cream, whether design or dessert. 2617 West Holcombe Blvd., Ste. B
