EXPLORATION THROUGH OPERA
Pulling the curtain back on the social issue surrounding unhoused Houstonians, the Houston Grand Opera presents the world premiere of Another City. Composer Jeremy Howard Beck and librettist Stephanie Fleischmann are leading the charge with this thought-provoking, immersive production that will be presented at Ecclesia Houston. “Charged with the responsibility of musically honoring a vast spectrum of experiences, I set out to sonically portray the beauty of these lives we continually look past by creating art out of similarly overlooked, unexpected materials,” shares Beck. “Danceable grooves and tuneful songs share equal footing with symphonic development. Field recordings I made of Houston are layered and interwoven with swinging street band sounds, ambient soundscapes, propulsive rhythms and truly operatic heights of emotion.” Running March 9 through 11, this site-specific production will mark HGO’s 74th world-premiere opera. TABLE TALK
Hope Farms is a new cooking school and educational venue to promote healthy eating.
Foodies, rejoice! Our very own trailblazer, Gracie Cavnar, has unveiled her newest venture, and we can guarantee it to be a scrumptious success. The founder and CEO of Recipe for Success Foundation recently opened the doors to the highly anticipated Hope Farms—an inimitable new cooking school and educational venue. Helping to promote food awareness and the proper tools for healthy eating, Hope Farms will host regular classes for all ages in the Peg Lee Culinary Classroom on the impressive campus. “Peg was one of my earliest mentors in the imagining and crafting of what Recipe for Success Foundation would become,” recalls Cavnar. “When we began programing, she rolled up her sleeves and got to work, helping us teach children to cook and bringing her many resources to help us raise money and awareness for our efforts.” Hope Farms is truly a treasure not to be missed. We’ll see you the next time class is in session! 10401 Scott St.
