Houston's Design 9: Chapman Design Carefully Curates The Ultimate Vacation Home

This Houston family enlisted help from Chapman Design to create their dream vacation home on Nantucket Island.

The Houston family tapped Julie Wood with Hither Creek Gardener to achieve their dream landscape architecture.

The kitchen packs a punch with a custom shade using Fermoi fabric, customized barstools from Furniture Classics adorned with vinyl by Mosehart-Schleeter Company and trim from Samuel & Sons.

For these Houston-based clients, the goal was to create the ultimate escape to Nantucket Island for a vacation residence. Enlisting the design expertise of Cathy Chapman, the clients' hopes for a traditional charming abode that might one day turn into a forever home came to life in this home. Initially built in 1990, the homeowners purchased the property in 2020 and sought to transport the colonial home into a sophisticated space that helped to infuse outdoor living within the interior space. Chapman worked meticulously to marry a mixture of traditional design with pops of color. “The house has wonderful, natural light, which led us to select bright, clear colors through fabric,” notes Chapman. “Our choices reflect a happy balance of fresh and traditional, which the architecture calls for.”

Scalamandré fabric anchors the space with custom shades in the seating area.

The living room features a tête-à-tête sourced from Susan Horn Antiques and recovered with Holland & Sherry fabric, which sits alongside a custom-made coffee table by Peck and Company.
