Design darling Corey Damen Jenkins (coreydamenjenkins.com) touches down in Houston for Fall Design Week.

We are thrilled about the release of Design Remix: A New Spin on Traditional Rooms (Rizzoli). Can you tell us about your inspiration for the book?
One of the things that excites me most about Design Remix is that it’s more than a ‘coffee-able book’ with pretty rooms; it’s also filled with helpful takeaways on how to design and decorate boldly with color, pattern and other motifs. I believe people are really eager to step out of the neutral beige and gray box we’ve been sitting in for the last 20 years. And honestly, that burgeoning public interest to break out was the touchstone for the book’s overall creative direction.
How would you best describe your style?
A fresh, Continental mix of maximalism and modernity. Space to be able to hold talks, workshops, seminars, gallery shows and events to promote people and organizations that are aligned with my mission of sharing and promoting new ways of seeing.

Where does your key source of inspiration come from?
Much of my inspiration comes from the fashion runway, and believe it or not, the NYC Flower District! I can literally spend hours looking at floral varieties. I’m mesmerized by their exotic color combinations, and I always ask myself, ‘If nature can make this color scheme work, why can’t I give it a spin in a room?’
Our Houston market is so looking forward to hosting you for Fall Design Week. Any muststop shops while here?
You’ll probably find me hitting the antique stores in town! I have client shopping lists to fill.
Any fun collaborations on the horizon or exciting things in the works over the next few months?
We’re just putting the finishing touches on my new licensed fabric collection for Kravet! It’s a very sexy, eclectic mix of jewel-toned color palettes and art deco-influenced patterns. There’s even some modern floral chintz dynamics for good measure! I think we’re at 45 SKUs—and there’s a little something for everybody. It will be dropping in spring of 2022.
