Local philanthropist and founder, chairman and CEO of Recipe for Success and Hope Farms, Gracie Cavnar is changing the way Houston’s children eat their food.
Why did you start Hope Farms? Hope Farms was the centerpiece of the original vision for Recipe for Success Foundation and at the core of our mission to provide healthy food to children, create a true farm in an urban setting and provide fresh, affordable vegetables to people in a food desert.
What do you love most about what you do? I love seeing the magic in a child’s eyes when they realize that something healthy can also be absolutely delicious!
What’s one thing you’ve done in the last year to change your health? I have done the same thing for the last 20 years: eat healthy, exercise and get enough sleep.
As you get older... I have learned to let go of things. Don’t focus on a downward spiral of worry.
My top three tips for maintaining a healthy life are... to drink water, keep half of your plate full of vegetables and be happy!
What’s next? Building out our co-op capacity so that small urban farmers have the opportunity to connect with bigger markets
