Artists on the best thing they saw this year and more!
WRITING ON THE WALL “Spacia and Amplexus” by JooYoung Choi

“JooYoung Choi has lived here for just over five years, and she shows her work at Anya Tish Gallery. It’s based on an imaginary world called the Cosmic Womb, and is characterized by bright colors and playful imagery. She currently has two huge sculptures up at two different art spaces in town, Project Row Houses and Lawndale Art Center.”

“I’ve always been a fan of Luisa Duarte’s work, as it is very mature and has a clear foundation. She has a background in architecture, which comes across in her works. A nod coming her way is an upcoming solo show at the Galveston Art Center.”

Page Piland’s recent paintings are oil on canvas with actual objects such as abandoned wood carefully mortised into the canvas with a portrait of the object next to it in which it’s hard to tell which one is the natural substance. He truly knows how to paint!”
