5 Plates to Share

Five shareable snacks from Houston's food scene.
Dish by Coltivare

1. Pax Americana
Chef Martha De Leon has taken over the kitchen at Pax Americana at the edge of Montrose and the Museum District. The same shareable plates concept continues to draw a hip crowd, and flavors are bold. In addition to the mussels (shown), the Korean red pepper pork ribs with red cabbage shouldn’t be missed. 4319 Montrose Blvd., 713.239.0228

2. Coltivare
It doesn’t get fresher than this Heights spot, which uses ingredients straight from its backyard vegetable garden. Produce shines brightest in the salads, so try the local heirloom tomatoes with French feta, cucumber gazpacho and arugula (shown), or the summer special of Texas peaches, braised duck, chilis and arugula. 3320 White Oak Drive, 713.637.4095

3. Sud Italia
Shanon Scott’s Rice Village spot also pulls fresh herbs from its own garden. If there’s an evening breeze, the patio is the perfect place to share the seasonal grilled vegetable plate with housemade pesto and a bottle of rosé with friends. 2347 University Blvd., 713.664.7571
