1. Backstreet Café
Rib-sticking pasta dishes tossed with bold ingredients are stirring up the new fall menu. Think conchiglioni with brisket ragu and Parmesan, and orchiette with blistered broccoli, Italian sausage and whipped ricotta. Also anticipate autumn flatbread, whole roasted striped bass and pumpkin desserts. 1103 S. Shepherd Dr., 713.521.2239

2. CRU Food & Wine Bar Café
Newbies on the lunch menu include a Cobb salad; mahi mahi fish tacos; crab and avocado sandwich; and a chicken salad sandwich. Try the grilled cheese panini with tomato basil soup on a chilly day. 2800 Kirby Dr., West Ave; 9595 Six Pines Dr., Market Street; 713.528.9463

3. Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse
Expect over 17 new menu items at this swanky Galleria steakhouse including a 45-day dry aged double bone prime ribeye dubbed “The Double Eagle.” Simply prepared halibut and a jalapeño-bacon burger are others to try. 5061 Westheimer Rd., 713.355.600

4. Izakaya
Besides poke, ramen, rice bowls and other eclectic Japanese bites, this Midtown pub now serves bento boxes for lunch. There are five boxes offered (each $14): chicken or salmon teriyaki; Bulgogi beef wraps; Pork Katsu sandwich; and chicken curry served with daily sides. 318 Gray St., 713.527.8988

5. Theodore Rex
Since opening day, chef Justin Yu has already begun tinkering with his concise menu based on the freshest ingredients.
